Printing labels, results, and receipts

Use the print page to preview, set up, and print sample labels, worksheets, results, invoices, receipts, and finance reports at their exact size.

One print page for every document

Every Print button in Kashef opens the same print page in a new tab. This includes sample labels, order labels, worksheets, test results, invoices, payment and refund receipts, the daily finance summary, finance reports, and the pending partner samples sheet.

The page shows:

  • Preview on the left: the exact document that will print.
  • Print and Download PDF on the right, with the paper size the document uses.
  • Print settings when the document has options, such as the label size, or the tests and letterhead for a results report.
  • Printer tips for that document type.

Select Back to return to the order, invoice, or page you came from.

How printing works

Select Print, or press Ctrl + P (⌘ + P on Mac). Kashef prepares the document as a PDF at its exact size and opens your browser's print dialog. Because it prints a PDF, the browser does not add its date, title, web address, or page numbers, and its margin settings cannot shrink the document.

In the print dialog:

  1. Choose the right printer: the label printer for labels, the receipt printer for receipts, and the office printer for A4 documents.
  2. Set Paper size to match the document: the label size you chose, an 80 mm roll, or A4.
  3. If the printout comes out small, set Scale to Default or Actual size.

The browser remembers the last printer you used. If one computer prints both labels and A4 documents, check the printer and paper size each time.

When the branch runs Kashef Connect with printers set up, you can skip the print dialog: Kashef sends the document to the printer with the paper, margins and options saved in Kashef Connect.

Under Print, the Kashef Connect line shows Online or Offline for your branch. When it is online:

  1. If the branch runs Kashef Connect on more than one computer, choose the Computer that has the printer. The status next to Kashef Connect shows whether that computer is ready.
  2. Open Printer and choose a printer. Printers made for this document, such as label printers for labels, are listed first.
  3. Select Print on the printer. Kashef shows Printing on… and then Printed on…, or the reason the printer could not print.

Kashef remembers the printer for each document type on this computer, for every user. Combined with Open the print dialog automatically, labels and receipts print as soon as the print page opens.

Choose Print dialog on this computer to print with the browser instead. If the chosen printer is offline, Kashef says so and opens the print dialog.

Labels

Sample labels and test results reports always print in English, whatever your Kashef language, so every lab and analyzer reads them the same way.

Choose the Label size that matches the roll in your label printer (for example 50 × 25 mm). The preview and the print update right away. Order labels print one label per page, in sample order.

Invoices and receipts

Choose the Document language, English or Arabic, for the patient's copy. This changes only the printed document, not your Kashef language.

Receipts print on 80 mm rolls. Each receipt is cut to the length of its content, so no blank paper comes out after it.

Saved settings

Kashef remembers the label size, the document language, and the results header and footer choice on each computer. They stay the same after you sign out, or when another user prints on the same computer. Each computer keeps its own settings, so a reception desk and a lab bench can print differently.

Results reports

Choose the tests to print and whether to print the lab's header and footer. Turn the header and footer off when you print on preprinted letterhead. Printing is disabled until at least one released test is selected.

Patient history lists the tests on this order that the patient also had in your lab before. Tick the tests whose history you want, and Kashef adds a Patient History page at the end of the report with the earlier results and their dates (up to the last eight visits). Small tests print one row per visit; larger tests, such as urine analysis, print one column per visit. Only released results from earlier orders are included.

Tick Open the print dialog automatically to skip the extra click. Kashef then opens the print dialog as soon as the print page opens for that document type. The choice is saved on this computer for every user, so each workstation can have its own setting.

If something goes wrong

  • The preview says there is nothing to print: the order has no labels yet, or no test is selected. Go back and complete the missing step.
  • A message says the document could not be printed: reload the page to see the latest data, then print again.
  • The print looks different on another computer: check that computer's printer, paper size, and scale in the print dialog.
  • Kashef Connect shows Offline: check that the Kashef Connect computer is on and connected to the internet. Until then, Print uses the print dialog.
  • A Kashef Connect printer could not print: read the reason under Print, or select Print with the print dialog instead. Then check the Print log in Kashef Connect and print a test page.
  • The print keeps waiting for Kashef Connect: Kashef Connect is not running on the branch computer. Kashef cancels the print after 2 minutes; select Print with the print dialog instead to print now.
