Contracts and insurance pricing

Manage negotiated pricing for companies, hospitals, doctors, insurers, and partner labs.

What contracts manage

Contracts define negotiated pricing and coverage arrangements. They can represent companies, hospitals, doctors, insurers, or other provider relationships depending on your lab policy.

When reception creates an order, the contract type and contract name can be selected. That selection becomes part of the pricing context used to calculate the order total.

Contract details

The contract form includes contract type, provider name, slug, code, default discount percentage, default coverage percentage, and active status. The table shows provider, type, discount, coverage, active state, and update time.

Use a clear provider name and code. Finance and reception should be able to identify the agreement without opening the full record.

Contact information

The contact section includes contact name, phone, email, and notes. Use it for contract account managers, authorization contacts, billing contacts, or escalation details.

Do not store sensitive patient claim details in contract notes. Use patient or insurance records where appropriate.

Discount and coverage

Default discount reduces the price. Default coverage describes the part covered by the contract or insurer. These percentages should match the signed agreement and finance policy.

If coverage differs by test, update the more specific pricing setup instead of forcing a broad default to fit every case.

Active status

Deactivate a contract when it should no longer be used for new orders. Existing orders may still reference it historically. Do not delete old contracts unless your data policy allows it and reports will not be affected.

Operational checks

Before making a contract available, create a test order using that contract and confirm price, coverage, patient balance, invoice behavior, and cashier workflow. Train reception on which contract to select and what documents are required from the patient.
