Result comments

Keep a library of ready comments that staff insert under test results, and see how comments reach the patient report.

What result comments are

Each lab unit of an order (and the "Other tests" group, and each CBC) carries one comment, for example "Sample slightly haemolysed; interpret potassium with caution" or "Kindly repeat after 2 weeks". The comment is written while entering or reviewing results and prints in English after that unit's results on the patient report, just before the unit manager's signature. A CBC's comment prints on the CBC page.

Staff fill the comment in three ways: from the test's interpretation rules, from this comment library, or with a Kashef AI draft that they review and edit. See Enter results.

Add a comment to the library

  1. Go to Catalog > Result Comments and choose New.
  2. Enter a Short title. Staff see this title in the comment list, so make it easy to recognise.
  3. Choose a Test to offer the comment only for that test, or leave it empty to make a general comment that is offered on every test.
  4. Write the Comment text in English, exactly as it should print on the report.
  5. Set the List order and keep Active switched on.

Switch Active off to hide a comment without deleting it. Comments already saved on results do not change when you edit or delete a library comment.

How staff see the library

In the Comment box of each unit, the library list shows two groups: These tests for the comments written for any test in the unit, then General comments. Choosing a comment adds its text to the box; staff can still edit the text before saving.

Automatic comments from interpretation rules

You do not need a library entry for comments that depend on the value. Add them as Interpretation Rules on the test instead. When a result matches a rule, its text fills the comment automatically and keeps updating while the value changes, until staff edit the text. A rule can read one parameter of a multi-result test and can match the result flag, for example "Protein is abnormal → Proteinuria" on Complete Urine Analysis; see Tests catalog.

Kashef AI drafts

The Kashef AI button writes a draft using the patient's age, sex, medical history, reason for tests, the current results with their flags and ranges, and the patient's previous results. The draft is never saved automatically: staff must read it, correct anything that does not fit, and save it.

Practical tips

  • Keep library comments short and factual; the report has limited space under each test.
  • Prefer test-specific comments for technical remarks (haemolysis, lipaemia, dilution) and general comments for follow-up advice.
  • Review old or duplicated comments every few months and switch off the ones nobody uses.
